After having my 2003 Audi A8L break down right outside the Lincoln tunnel a reputable repair facility that specialized in working on Audi's was in line. L&M came up first shot on a google search for "Audi Repair Shop" near my georgraphic loation. Called up L&M and spoke to bill over the phone, he did a quick diagnostic on what's going on with the car so he can understand what occured prior to the break down. He then explained that he would be more than happy to work on the car and that he also personally own's a A8. Bill's own personal words before I left their shop that afternoon were "Don't worry, you will be happy you brought your car here" My car was towed in and given a spot in their fenced in yard. He explained what the process was goign to be with the diagnostic for my car and showed me their diagnostic set up with the latest software and computers. A free ride to the local train station was even offered once my vehicle was at their facility as their care for customers getting to where they have to go without their vehicle is even catered for. He diagnosed my issues by the end of day and had the car running before the shop closed that night. A full explanation of what caused the break down was given. I've been to a few stealerships and smaller automotive shops, but L&M takes service to another level. A professional team with experience and knowledge for a specialized group of cars. Prices are fair compared to what you will pay at the dealership. The price they charge for their service will still beat any dealership price from my own personal experience. I would recommend them hands down. There are very few talented and honest technicians/shops that still exist and L&M is one of the few.

These guys are the best... if you have an aircooled VW in the New York area, then you really should check these guys out next time you need some work. Many years of experience working on vw's.

L & M is the best. I had an electrical issue in my 1997 BMW. The 2 so called "BMW Specialists" each held my car for 1 week and created more problems than actually finding the problem. I went to Billy and Michael, and they had it done in 3 days! (1 day waiting for car part incl.) The car was running like new, now its running like brand new!!! Thanks guys!!

I literally signed up for CitySearch just to write this review -- I am that pleased with L&M. L&M just does everything right. It is family owned and operated, and you can tell. I dealt with Michael, Bill's son, and then also Bill when Michael went away for a week. Both people were exceptional. They provided great clarity and have very specific and thorough communication. Every single element they were going to work on was thoroughly communicated -- I knew exactly what I was getting into. Service was fast and they were able to make a tight deadline that I had to reach. When I picked up my car Bill was so proud of the work they had done that he kept asking me over and over how I liked it. That is the main thing that differentiates L&M and Bill and his family -- they take legitimate pride in the work that they are do, and they are master mechanics. There is only one fault I see with the place, and that's the location. It's tough to get to -- particularly if you don't have a car. But when I dropped my car off they paid for a cab to the subway, which made it a bit easier. But I can't express enough how worth the trip it is. Really, if you have a German car that you care about and live in the New York area this is the place to go -- hands down.

Bottom line before I get into my long winded review, the guys here are awesome, especially Michael who I worked with. Go here if you want to get it done right without having to worry about getting ripped off or milked for your cash. They are not open on weekends, but it's worth taking time off during your work week to get it done, so don't let that stand in your way like it did for me in the past. It's excellent work for a fair price. They are super fair with the parts costs, labor costs are a bit more than a standard chain, but feel its fine to charge a bit more when you're the best (and I believe they are). I went to L&M for a very labor intensive overheating repair, and the costs came out being very reasonable. Definitely cheaper than if I went to a chain *cough* Strauss *cough*. Furthermore, you can tell that they were more concerned about doing a great job for you rather than getting your money. You'll see for yourself. Michael, his dad, and other staff were super friendly. They gave me detailed explanations of the entire process, possible issues, a walk through the garage, you name it. I'm not a car pro by any means, but they explained it to me in a way that was clear and instilled me with confidence. I got calls with any updates and possible costs as the work was being done. The repair was done by the next day in time for the weekend. And on my way out, I was shown the bad parts that were removed and given great advice on why the issue happened and how I can avoid it in the future. I am fortunate that I don't live too far from these guys, but they would have been worth the trip even if they were a good distance away. Highly suggested. These guys are the trusted and talented mechanics you've been looking for. I was skeptical about the reviews I read being a bit too good, but they deliver. Go for it. P.S. It's been about a month since the repair and my baby is still running like a champ. Thanks.

These guys are quite simply the best mechanics in NYC, and possibly the entire Eastern seaboard. (I feel qualified saying this, having had numerous Volvos fixed in 4 states over 23 years.) I dealt w/ Michael who is competent, honest, and personable. He explained in (layman's) detail exactly what my car needed, prioritized the repairs, and helped me come to the decision that my car was not worth fixing b/c of its age, even though that would have meant $ for him and L&M. I'm slightly wistful I won't have a car anymore now that I found this place.

L & M Foreign Cars turned an unsavory experience with an unscrupulous Manhattan Auto Repair shop into a thorough and smooth restoration of our car. My daughter, who had our Virginia based VW in Brooklyn, N. Y. over the holidays, collided with road debris in the Lincoln Tunnel. She had the car towed to 54th St. Auto Center on Dec. 30th for repairs, diagnosed by them, as oil pan replacement. The repair failed, the engine seized, the auto shop refused to release the car for repairs elsewhere, refused to calculate what charges were due on the car, even lied about a check they received from our insurance company. Bad scene upon bad scene three weeks into her ordeal - I told my daughter that I would handle research and repairs from Virginia. Bill Roth and his son Michael listened to my telephone account of the nightmare experience, asked numerous probing and intelligent questions about the accident and the cars condition, and agreed to take on the project. All this occurred after a 15-minute conversation with a total stranger. The VW is a 2001 GTI and is now better than new! It has always been a good car. With its restored engine and numerous other adjustments necessitated by the accident and subsequent faulty repairs, it should serve for many years of safe and enjoyable driving. Its reassuring to know that we now have a superb shop of mechanics to call on the Brooklyn to service the car in the future. All of the work to restore the engine was accomplished within the budget established by the adjuster sent out by our insurance company. I could not recommend more highly the L & M Foreign Car-Guys. Like good surgeons everywhere, Bill Roth called the day after my daughter picked up the car to check on its performance. I am left with a renewed faith in the honesty and skill of truly fine mechanics. Theirs is an art form of the highest order. Mary Wheeler Fredericksburg, VA

I discovered L & M two years when on a trip from Boston into NYC my car broke down. After hearing the umpteenth shakedown from Audi dealers (brakes, coils, suspension) I took a chance and went to L & M. The folks at L & M told me exactly what was wrong, fixed it, and I emerged without feeling I'd been ripped off. From that time on, each time I need something done, I'd drive down from Boston to Brooklyn for servicing/repairs. Then I moved to Toronto (Canada). How good are these guys? I time my servicing during vacations so I can bring my Audi to L & M. Blue Audi (Boston & Toronto).

I am a physician who actually makes house-calls so I was very pleased when L&M completed the tune-up and service of my MiniCooper in 24 hours. They are extremely friendly, responsive to questions, and trustworthy which is important since I am a novice when it comes to cars. I have already recommended them to 3 of my friends!

I have had a car in New York for over a year now, and was going to a mechanic that was cheap and did decent work, but I wasn't completely satisfied. I tried L & M, and I was immediately impressed. I took my 1999 Nissan Altima to them to get an idler pulley and belt installed. They got me in and out in less than an hour, and were friendly in the process! It wasn't shady in any way and the price was very reasonable. I feel that they are honest and definitely know what they are doing. I would reccomend L & M to anyone who needs work done on their car. I've found my mechanic!
